Preparing for Your Colonoscopy
Good bowel preparation is essential for a safe and effective procedure. Clear views allow polyps to be detected and removed when required. Please follow the bowel preparation and fasting instructions carefully.

About Colonoscopy
A colonoscopy examines the lining of the large intestine to detect and remove polyps, screen for bowel cancer, or assess symptoms such as bleeding or altered bowel habits. Learn more about colonoscopy.
About Gastroscopy
A gastroscopy (upper endoscopy) examines the oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum using a thin flexible tube with a camera. It is used to investigate reflux, swallowing difficulties, abdominal pain, and anaemia. Learn more about gastroscopy.
It is commonly performed to investigate:
reflux and GORD symptoms
difficulty swallowing
upper abdominal pain
nausea
iron deficiency anaemia
suspected coeliac disease
You will receive written fasting instructions before your procedure.
On the Day of Your Procedure
You will be admitted to an accredited private hospital.
Sedation is administered by a specialist anaesthetist to ensure comfort.
Most procedures take 10–30 minutes.
You will recover in a monitored area before discharge.
A responsible adult must accompany you home.
After Your Procedure
Dr Abu Shawish will discuss the findings with you on the day. A comprehensive report will also be sent to your referring doctor. Minor bloating or drowsiness can occur and usually resolves quickly. You will be advised when to resume medications and normal activities.
